Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite

We live in an age of international travel and commerce. Unfortunately the movement of people all over the world has also lead to the global spread of bed bugs. We can easily transport bed bugs and their eggs through the movement of our luggage, clothing or bedding. It is therefore unsurprising that some of the most affected places in the UK are hotel rooms. It’s certain the 2012 London Olympics will have a huge impact on the UK bedbug population. For example, following the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, the number of cases of reported bed bug infestations in Australia has risen by 15,000 per cent. Naturalmat uses a unique chemical free treatment that is based on Geraniol (citrus) in the final finishing of all its mattress covers. In addition to Naturalmat mattress covers being anti bed bug, the organic West Country wool used within all Naturalmat mattresses is anti dust-mite, anti moth and anti mosquito. This is achieved through a treatment of essential oils including lemon, eucalyptus and lavender, which is added to the lambswool during the scouring process in Devon using water from the River Dart.

Devon organic mattress company Naturalmat wins contract for Z Hotels

Naturalmat, based in Devon are delighted to have won the contract to manufacturer all 303 organic mattresses for the first three Z Hotels. The first hotel opened in Soho, with further openings in Victoria and Liverpool already in the pipeline.

The clever team behind Z Hotels Bev King, Rich Meeham and John Raymond came up with an inventive plan to turn unused office spaces into new small hotels containing about 100 rooms each. The rooms are very reasonably priced from around £85 per night, which will be a very attractive offer for city centre locations.

The average Z Hotel room consists of a compact space but everything in it is made to a very high standard with top quality fixtures and furnishings. The hotels have a limited reception as all bookings and checking in can be done online.

Z Hotels are very focused on making their projects as sustainable as possible using the most up to date technology to ensure that energy and water consumption is kept to a minimum. With a strong green emphasis, it was inevitable that Z Hotels would turn to organic mattress specialists Naturalmat to help them with their first three projects. The Devon based manufacturer will provide Z Hotels with mattresses for all three of their new openings. This consists of 93 beds for their Soho hotel, 110 for their Victoria hotel and about 100 beds for their Liverpool hotel. Z Hotels have also looked to Naturalmat to provide them with organic bedding including Naturalmat’s fantastically designed mattress protectors.

It seems that the demand for a fully green and eco mattress made entirely from sustainable raw materials would be a necessary item for the hotel industry.
